Don't take our word for it, check out what our clients have had to say about their experience with Rhoads to Independence coaching and occupational therapy!
I worked with Janine in one of the EDS coaching groups. She made the group a safe space for everyone to speak freely, and in the first meeting we had a list of group "rules" and accommodations that everyone felt comfortable with. Talking about my disabilities and neurodivergent brain in this group was met with support and helpful feedback, and I was able to learn a lot from both Janine and my group-mates about a variety of different topics. I would absolutely recommend any of Janine's groups to anyone who is dealing with EDS, chronic illness, and is neurodivergent. It's hard to find a facilitator/doctor who can encompass all of those things, but she does it wonderfully and with grace. I couldn't recommend a better person to run a coaching group!
This coaching group was 100% worth it! Just being able to talk through issues with people who get it was amazing, but getting feedback, setting goals, and getting to brainstorm together makes me feel like I'm a step or two ahead instead of fifteen behind. Janine was a fantastic facilitator and I'm so glad I found this group!
I got so much out of the group. It helped me better understand how to accommodate myself, a skill I will use for the rest of my life. Managing EDS comes with its own set of challenges that can feel overwhelming and isolating. The group empowered me to tackle these challenges, making me feel more in control and optimistic about managing my condition. It was great to connect with others facing similar challenges. Meeting people who understand what it's like to live with EDS and solve problems together was incredibly reassuring and helpful. And having had so many negative and even traumatic experiences related to EDS, having this fun and positive experience felt very healing.
This group is amazing! I got to meet with people who are in the exact same boat as me with zero judgment. Getting to bounce management strategies and ideas off each other was so fantastic and I learnt a lot! Thanks Janine!

It was so liberating to be in a conversation with others who had EDS. Even though everyone's experiences vary, I finally felt like I wasn't over-explaining myself all of the time. Janine accepts client's goals and does not try to push them away from using accommodations or disability aids. Her unique perspective of having hEDS while being an OT allowed for productive and smooth guidance of the group's conversation.
When I dropped out of college for medical reasons, it became much harder to socialize. This group gave me not only a group of people socialize with but also a group of people who understand me and my medical issues in a way that I have never experienced before.
I loved my experience with Janine’s coaching group. Her lived experience as a chronically ill person made me feel more understood than any other medical professional has. It can be challenging to find people in the field who can understand what you’re going through and help you improve without judgment, and Janine was the first person I’ve met in the medical field to do both of these with me. Would 100% recommend!
I have had the pleasure of working with Janine on a variety of cases. She brings an intuitive sense of treatment for a variety of disorders. Janine’s ability to build rapport and use a variety of treatment modalities with her clients is unparalleled. Her knowledge of what her clients need is what sets her apart from other clinicians. She approaches treatment holistically, involving the child, the parents, and all team members to work collaboratively to facilitate overall development. In essence, she addresses the most fundamental skills a child requires to master before progressing forward. You may find Janine rolling down the scooter in your hallway or knees deep in putty with your child. She has an uncanny ability to get through to children and be on their level. Her therapy techniques are always stimulating, engaging children and leading to cooperative and productive sessions. As a speech language pathologist, I have learned sensory techniques from her that have led to success in my sessions with my clients. I highly recommend her as an occupational therapist because of her proven and successful results. Her clients have shown significant improvements in executive functions, attention, arousal, handwriting, sensory feeding, and all areas of fine motor skills. I couldn’t recommend a more talented and more passionate clinician to work with your child.

It is an absolute delight to serve in the same profession as Janine; just as it is a delight to see the children she services reach their goals.
I had the privilege of being supervised and mentored by Janine for 3 months, learning from her and gaining insight from her experience. Her ability to connect with clients and develop rapport is a true skill, creating a trusting and honest environment that enables for client-centered care. She is able to guide, direct, and coach both client and family in a manner that reflects and manifests in the client’s progress. Her holistic approach of applying knowledge and insight to create intervention plans for her clients is not only effective, but beneficial and invaluable to both the family and client. I cannot recommend her enough!!
For three months, Janine was my supervisor during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a graduate student I had the wonderful opportunity to work with Janine to provide occupational therapy services via tele-health. Under her mentorship I was able to learn invaluable skills about how to be an occupational therapist.
She has experience working with a variety of clients, including individuals that have been diagnosed with autism, cerebral palsy, developmental delay, behavioral needs, and difficulties with feeding, among others. Janine uses a variety of techniques and skills including those related to aquatic therapy and sensory integration. She goes above and beyond to meet the needs of her clients, their families, and their caregivers. Her therapeutic activities and interventions are always client-centered. Janine is willing to take the time to educate, support, and guide her clients so that they are able to become independent and confident in their ability to participate and accomplish goals that are meaningful to them.
