Rhoads to Independence believes that every individual has the potential to achieve their goals and live their best life. Thorough our coaching services, we empower you to problem solve and achieve your goals in the way that makes the most sense for you. You build the skills to be able to take on life's challenges.
Our coaching approach is strengths-based, client-driven and utilizes a coaching model backed by research. We do not give you strategies, instead we support you through conversation to gain insights and discover the strategies on your own.
In OT, the occupational therapist is the expert. In coaching, you are the expert. In coaching you will gain the skills to be able to solve your own challenges as opposed to needing to rely on the OT to do so for you. Our goal for you during our coaching relationship is for you to be confident in your self and able to address things as they come up as opposed to needing to rely on us to do so.
With coaching, clients can be all over the world. They do not need to reside in PA or NJ, USA. All coaching takes place via online video chat or phone call.
In addition to this, all coaching services are offered on a sliding scale. We also offer more affordable options throughout the year like group coaching sessions.
In our 1:1 virtual sessions we will work on your goals for yourself! Goals can be about anything. We have coached people on their health, their business start up, their relationships and more!
Price: $115
What is more fun than being coached with someone you want to grow with?! We offer coaching sessions for pairs. A pair can be anyone: partners, friends, caregiver and child, siblings or even business partners. You split the cost of the session and get the same coaching.
Price: $65 per person.
Group coaching sessions are opportunities to share strategies, connect with and work towards your goals with others who understand your position. We offer groups periodically throughout the year so check out our schedule page for more information!
Price: $20 a session for 6 sessions
In a day and age where it feels like everyone can be a coach, we understand your worries about finding someone legitimate. That is why we proudly display our Advanced Practice Certificate in Coaching here for you to see! To earn a Coaching in Context APC from Jefferson, the coach must go through four (4) semesters of doctoral level courses in coaching including live classes, mentored coaching sessions, outside of class work and tracking of coaching hours. So far, Janine has over 500 hours of coaching experience.
Coaching is a collaborative and equal partnership between the coach and the client where the coach fosters a positive environment for the client to problem solve their goals. It is not a session where the coach is the expert and the client is being taught.
We conduct most of our coaching sessions online through zoom or via phone call. In a session, your coach will assist you in defining your goals for coaching and work with you to help you discover ways to reach them.
Our coaching sessions are not the coach telling you what to do. We may work collaboratively to come up with some suggestions or give the clients info when asked, but we do not tell you what to do. Why is that? YOU are the expert of your own condition, lifestyle, etc. Why would we give you 4 suggestions all that wont work for you when you can use the coaching session to discover some things that will! Through our coaching relationship you will gain skills, insights and confidence to be able to make changes and control your own life.
Nope! Coaching sessions are coaching sessions. Your coach is an occupational therapist and has background knowledge in occupational therapy, but it is not considered OT. This means it cannot be billed as OT to insurance, is not considered OT at all and cannot be viewed as such.
We do not take insurance for coaching, but we will work with you for a sliding scale payment for coaching sessions. We do not make you pay for an entire package upfront!
Base rate: $115 a session

This coaching group was 100% worth it! Just being able to talk through issues with people who get it was amazing, but getting feedback, setting goals, and getting to brainstorm together makes me feel like I'm a step or two ahead instead of fifteen behind. Janine was a fantastic facilitator and I'm so glad I found this group!
I worked with Janine in one of the EDS coaching groups. She made the group a safe space for everyone to speak freely, and in the first meeting we had a list of group "rules" and accommodations that everyone felt comfortable with. Talking about my disabilities and neurodivergent brain in this group was met with support and helpful feedback, and I was able to learn a lot from both Janine and my group-mates about a variety of different topics. I would absolutely recommend any of Janine's groups to anyone who is dealing with EDS, chronic illness, and is neurodivergent. It's hard to find a facilitator/doctor who can encompass all of those things, but she does it wonderfully and with grace. I couldn't recommend a better person to run a coaching group!
I loved my experience with Janine’s coaching group. Her lived experience as a chronically ill person made me feel more understood than any other medical professional has. It can be challenging to find people in the field who can understand what you’re going through and help you improve without judgment, and Janine was the first person I’ve met in the medical field to do both of these with me. Would 100% recommend!

When I dropped out of college for medical reasons, it became much harder to socialize. This group gave me not only a group of people socialize with but also a group of people who understand me and my medical issues in a way that I have never experienced before.
I got so much out of the group. It helped me better understand how to accommodate myself, a skill I will use for the rest of my life. Managing EDS comes with its own set of challenges that can feel overwhelming and isolating. The group empowered me to tackle these challenges, making me feel more in control and optimistic about managing my condition. It was great to connect with others facing similar challenges. Meeting people who understand what it's like to live with EDS and solve problems together was incredibly reassuring and helpful. And having had so many negative and even traumatic experiences related to EDS, having this fun and positive experience felt very healing.
It was so liberating to be in a conversation with others who had EDS. Even though everyone's experiences vary, I finally felt like I wasn't over-explaining myself all of the time. Janine accepts client's goals and does not try to push them away from using accommodations or disability aids. Her unique perspective of having hEDS while being an OT allowed for productive and smooth guidance of the group's conversation.

This group is amazing! I got to meet with people who are in the exact same boat as me with zero judgment. Getting to bounce management strategies and ideas off each other was so fantastic and I learnt a lot! Thanks Janine!
